The Urine culture and sensitivity test involves testing samples of urine for bacterial infections that lead to urinary tract infections. Women are more prone to such infections as compared to men. The sample collected is cultured under laboratory conditions to determine if there is any bacterial manifestation.
This is a simple test. Patients are required to collect a considerable amount of urine which is tested in the laboratory. Patients are asked to collect the first early morning, mid-stream urine. This sample can have larger bacterial count if infection is present. However, prior to sample collection, washing hands as well as genitals is mandatory. Always collect the sample in a clean container provided to you by your health care assistant.
